At 0432 hours on Monday March 28th, Company 8 (Reynoldsville VFD), Engines 71, 111 (Spelter VFD), and 121 (Stonewood VFD) were alerted for an Automatic Commercial Fire Alarm at the Skana Aluminum Company on Wilsonburg Road. Truck 7 responded with 3 personnel in 3 minutes. Enroute, Headquarters advised of a small fire in the facility that activated the sprinkler system and that the alarm was unable to be shut off with the fire being out. A second call back from the facility indicated that the fire had not been extinguished. Tanker 7 staffed with an additional 2 personnel then responded. Engines 51 (Mt. Clare VFD) and 91 (Salem VFD) as well as HCES were then added to the assignment. Truck 7 arrived on scene to find a single-story commercial building with smoke showing. Engine 112 and Engine 81 arrived on scene laying in from a nearby hydrant to Truck 7 for water supply. Crews made entry into the structure while Truck 7 laddered the building to find a rolling mill machine on fire involving the electrical system and motor. The fire was extinguished within 15 minutes utilizing a high pressure BC extinguisher and 2 water cans for the contents around the machine. Extensive positive pressure ventilation was needed to eliminate the heavy smoke condition. After checking for further extension and clean up, units returned home at 0601 hours. No injuries were reported.
