At 2333 hours on Tuesday July 26th, Company 11 (Spelter VFD), Engines 41 (Lumberport VFD), 71, and 101 (Shinnston VFD) along with HCES were dispatched for a Structure Fire in the 3500 block of Shinnston Pike in Hepzibah. Truck 7 staffed with 5 personnel responded in 3 minutes. Engine 112 arrived on scene with a Working Fire to find a 2-story multi family dwelling with heavy smoke showing from the 2nd floor. Crews placed dual 1 3/4” cross lays in service to begin an interior attack and initiate searches and were faced with high heat and low visibility. Truck 7 arrived on scene and was assigned first due truck company responsibilities including throwing ground ladders and placing the aerial device in the air to begin vertical ventilation on the roof. After cutting a vent hole in the roof, interior crews were evacuated due to deteriorating conditions with fire eventually showing throughout the roof and a partial 2nd story floor collapse. A 2nd alarm was struck bringing Engines 81 (Reynoldsville VFD), 123 (Stonewood VFD), and Squad 51 (Bridgeport FD) to the scene. A defensive operation was then initiated with a handline protecting an exposure next to the fire and Truck 7 transitioning to aerial master stream operations. Engine 112 supplied Truck 7 as they laid approx. 1000’ of 4” LDH to a hydrant upon arrival. The fire was placed under control at 0102 hours with an extensive overhaul and clean up taking place. Searches proved negative and it was determined the building was vacant. No injuries were reported with Chief 11 holding command. Boothsville VFD Engine 155 transferred to Co. 11 for the duration of the incident. Truck 7 returned home at 0412.
