ISO Rating
Fri. Apr 15th 2016

The Nutter Fort Fire Department is pleased to announce that we have been awarded a new ISO Class Rating of 3. This is a 2 point drop from our previous rating of 5. This would not be possible without the outstanding support of city council, the communities in which we serve, as well as our dedicated members who take the time to train and continuely work hard to move the department forward. We are one of 15 Class 3 departments in the state of West Virginia and one of only 3,265 departments in the country to receive this rating.

What is ISO you ask?
ISO stands for Insurance Service Organization. This is a group of trained, professional evaluators that assess almost every fire department in the U.S. ISO uses a consistent set of guidelines to evaluate a fire department. ISO bases a fire department’s rating on many factors including the number of personnel on duty, training level of personnel (paid or volunteer), the amount of water the fire department can get to a fire, and the amount and quality of equipment used (such as fire engines and hand tools). The purpose of ISO is to give insurance companies a uniform system on which to base their insurance premiums. The highest rating is a 1 and the lowest a 9.
