Long post alert:
Approximately 3 years ago, our Engine 72, that was equipped with a 50 foot telesquirt, failed the required annual ladder testing. What does this mean? Every aspect of our firefighting equipment is required to be tested every year. This includes our hoses, SCBAs, fire pumps, and both ground and aerial ladders. If any of these fail testing, the failed item(s)/section(s) must be removed from service and either repaired or replaced. With Engine 72 being a 1992 model and the actual manufacturer of the telesquirt out of business, the cost of fixing the unit would be astronomical and we would still be left operating a 1992 piece of fire apparatus. From this point on, we diligently began looking for options to replace Engine 72.
Now fast forward to 2021, after much research, specing, and crunching numbers, we are proud to announce that we have signed the contract for a 2021 Pierce Enforcer 107’ Ascendant Aerial Ladder. This new truck will offer many more features and safety than our previous unit did and will last us for decades to come. We want to extend our thanks and appreciation to our salesman Paul Jordan of Atlantic Emergency Solutions (formerly Finley Fire Equipment) for his dedication and help with this project since the beginning and BC Bank for their help on securing financing. “Truck 7” is expected to be placed in service in early 2022 as it is currently in production.
